Structural Biology Awareness Program
Mahatma Gandhi Medical Advanced Research Institute (MGMARI) jointly with Molecular Biophysics Unit (MBU), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is organising a two-day national level workshop titled “Structural Biology Awareness Program” on June 17 & 18, 2024, at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Hall, Bapuji Central Library, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Puducherry. The program will provide a platform for researchers to delve into the world of Structural Biology and its applications in healthcare and allied areas.
Structural biology is a branch of molecular biology that studies the 3D structure of biological macromolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, and complex assemblies of these molecules. Structural insights are crucial for deciphering their function in biological processes and to facilitate targeted drug design.
This 2 days joint program covers several research themes ranging from solid state and surface physics to nanotechnology, materials science and life sciences. Integral to this is Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste, a scientific facility in Italy that hosts two Indian government-supported beamlines, catering to the needs of the Indian scientific community working in macromolecular crystallography (MX) and related disciplines.
This outreach program aims to provide a discussion platform for structural biology projects and to sensitize researchers regarding remote handling of the MX and XRD2 beamlines at Elettra. It is envisaged that this program would enhance beamline usage by bringing in newer groups to fully utilize the facility at Elettra.
