{"id":20236,"date":"2022-10-21T19:50:38","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T19:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/?p=20236"},"modified":"2022-10-21T20:55:39","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T20:55:39","slug":"mercedes-benz-eqg-wont-share-platform-with-other-evs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/2022\/10\/21\/mercedes-benz-eqg-wont-share-platform-with-other-evs\/","title":{"rendered":"Mercedes-Benz EQG won&#039;t share platform with other EVs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/aedb7b4646cb7e4156e1acc21c21e97d1968ac17-16x9-x0y186w3559h2002.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Mercedes-Benz\u2018s upcoming all-electric G-Class, due in 2024, won\u2019t use any of Mercedes-Benz\u2019s electric vehicle platforms and will offer \u201cmind-boggling\u201d off-road performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">At this year\u2019s Paris motor show, Ola K\u00e4llenius, chairman of the board of management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, told <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.motortrend.com\/news\/mercedes-benz-gwagen-ev-eqg-details\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Motor Trend<\/a> the Mercedes-Benz EQG will feature dedicated electric off-roader underpinnings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">This means the EQG won\u2019t be based on the existing EVA platform that underpins the <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/mercedes-benz\/eqe\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercedes-Benz EQE<\/a> sedan and SUV, as well as the <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/mercedes-benz\/eqs\" rel=\"noopener\">EQS<\/a> liftback and SUV, nor will it use the upcoming MB.EA architecture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-13q60b2-StyledParagraph e1s06mna0\">For more Motoring related news and videos check out <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" href=\"https:\/\/7news.com.au\/lifestyle\/motoring?utm_source=7NEWS&amp;utm_medium=contextual-link&amp;utm_campaign=lifestyle-article-sub-topic-page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motoring &gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It\u2019s unclear whether it will use a version of the existing <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/mercedes-benz\/g\" rel=\"noopener\">G-Class<\/a> underpinnings, or whether it will use its own bespoke platform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The upcoming SUV was previewed last year with the \u201cnear-production\u201d <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/car-news\/mercedes-benz-concept-eqg-revealed\" rel=\"noopener\">Concept EQG<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"css-1qsv1b2-StyledFigure e1rue1fc3\"><figcaption class=\"e1rue1fc0 figcaption css-1m9h34l-StyledFigCaption-StyledFigcaption e13f1dd25\"><span class=\"css-1vhm7mh-StyledFigCaptionText e13f1dd24\"><span class=\"css-1vt5x9l-Caption e13f1dd23\">Concept EQG<\/span><span> Credit: CarExpert<\/span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt has cult status. It is unique. The G will remain a G,\u201d said Mr K\u00e4llenius.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cBy definition with its off-road capabilities, it is not a platform, it is its own vehicle, full stop, and it will remain its own vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Mr K\u00e4llenius told Motor Trend that he recently had the chance to drive an early powertrain mule prototype at some off-road facilities near Graz, Austria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt was mind-boggling. I know I\u2019m raising expectations here, but I was so excited stepping out of that car that I cannot wait for the electric G to come,\u201d said Mr K\u00e4llenius.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cIt was so competent, so easy to ride in. It will have phenomenal performance on and off the road, coupled with the most energy dense battery we can find in a vehicle that is slightly aerodynamically challenged in terms of its drive co-efficient.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"css-1qsv1b2-StyledFigure e1rue1fc3\"><figcaption class=\"e1rue1fc0 figcaption css-1m9h34l-StyledFigCaption-StyledFigcaption e13f1dd25\"><span class=\"css-1vhm7mh-StyledFigCaptionText e13f1dd24\"><span class=\"css-1vt5x9l-Caption e13f1dd23\">Supplied<\/span><span> Credit: CarExpert<\/span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Mercedes-Benz hasn\u2019t gone into much depth in regard to what the production EQG\u2019s powertrain will be and what outputs it will produce. The Concept EQG was powered by four electric motors making undisclosed outputs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Up front, it had fully independent suspension, while the rear had a new solid axle adapted to house the car\u2019s electric motors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Although low-down torque is already a strength of electric motors, Mercedes-Benz fitted a manually switchable two-speed transmission to the Concept EQG for what is likely to be an electric take on low-range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">As previously reported, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/car-news\/mercedes-benz-g-class-ev-to-offer-silicon-battery-technology\" rel=\"noopener\">EQG will be optionally available with silicon-based electric vehicle (EV) battery technology<\/a> manufactured by US startup Sila Nanotechnologies from 2025.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"css-1qsv1b2-StyledFigure e1rue1fc3\"><figcaption class=\"e1rue1fc0 figcaption css-1m9h34l-StyledFigCaption-StyledFigcaption e13f1dd25\"><span class=\"css-1vhm7mh-StyledFigCaptionText e13f1dd24\"><span class=\"css-1vt5x9l-Caption e13f1dd23\">Supplied<\/span><span> Credit: CarExpert<\/span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The company\u2019s high-silicon anode material is claimed to have a 20 to 40 per cent increase in energy density compared to commercially available battery cells with a comparable format, with a volumetric energy density of more than 800Wh\/L.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">For context, the current Chinese-built <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/tesla\/model-3\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla Model 3<\/a> with its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack has a volumetric energy density of 359Wh\/L.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Mercedes-Benz has also been working on other battery technologies, including solid-state batteries, which promise a smaller form factor with the potential of more range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The company already has partnerships with solid-state battery companies such as <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/car-news\/mercedes-benz-invests-in-second-solid-state-battery-company\" rel=\"noopener\">ProLogium<\/a> and <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/car-news\/stellantis-mercedes-latest-investors-in-us-solid-state-battery-startup\" rel=\"noopener\">Factorial Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure e4e0a020\">Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle architecture and development e-drive vice president Christophe Starzynski told Motor Trend a breakthrough with solid-state battery technology is expected in the second half of the decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Mr Starzynski also confirmed Mercedes-Benz is <a class=\"css-1lsn4oh-StyledTextLink ezegcyi0\" data-link-type=\"article-inline\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carexpert.com.au\/car-news\/mercedes-benz-to-offer-cheaper-less-powerful-batteries-in-smaller-evs-report\" rel=\"noopener\">working on LFP batteries for entry-level vehicles<\/a>, which are known for being cheaper to produce and safer than nickel-based batteries, but with less energy-dense cells and a shorter range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1n6q21n-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Crucially, the risk of a battery fire is reduced as LFP batteries are less prone to overheating.<\/p>\n<p
