{"id":40595,"date":"2023-02-14T13:52:17","date_gmt":"2023-02-14T14:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/?p=40595"},"modified":"2023-02-14T20:35:33","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T20:35:33","slug":"india-discovers-5-9-million-tonnes-of-lithium-reserves-in-jammu-and-kashmir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/2023\/02\/14\/india-discovers-5-9-million-tonnes-of-lithium-reserves-in-jammu-and-kashmir\/","title":{"rendered":"India Discovers 5.9 Million Tonnes of Lithium Reserves in Jammu and Kashmir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-t-india\">India<\/a> has found 5.9 million tonnes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-lithium\">lithium<\/a> reserves in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-jammu-and-kashmir\">Jammu and Kashmir<\/a> provinces, the country\u2019s first major discovery, which experts believe could help India advance its goal to increase the production of electric vehicles (EVs).<\/p>\n<p>The Geological Survey of India made the discovery in the Salal-Haimana region of Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Reasi district, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1897799\">a statement<\/a> issued by the Indian Atomic Energy Department.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Mines handed over a report on this, along with 15 other resource-bearing geological reports and 35 geological memorandums, to the relevant state governments on Feb. 9.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Geological Survey of India has for the first time established 5.9 million tonnes inferred resources (G3) of lithium in Salal-Haimana area of Reasi District of Jammu &amp; Kashmir (UT).<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeologyIndia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GeologyIndia<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1\/2 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tH5uv2BL9m\">pic.twitter.com\/tH5uv2BL9m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ministry Of Mines (@MinesMinIndia) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MinesMinIndia\/status\/1623720717656420353?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 9, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lithium is the main element of lithium-ion batteries, a critical component of smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>India previously discovered <a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1696558\">1,600 tonnes<\/a> of lithium reserves in the Mandya district of Karnataka in February 2021. The latest discovery is expected to help the country achieve its goal to attain 30 percent EV adoption by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>There are 98 million tonnes of lithium in the world, and India has found 5.5 percent of these rare resources, The Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/thewire.in\/environment\/lithium-reserve-jammu-kashmir-tests-india\">reported<\/a>, citing an official from the Delhi-based Council on Energy, Environment, and Water.<\/p>\n<h2>India\u2019s EVs Adoption<\/h2>\n<p>Deepak Krishnan, associate director of research firm WRI India, said the lithium reserves were labeled as \u201cinferred resources,\u201d indicating a need for further exploration efforts to convert the estimated resources to an exploitable category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a few stages of assessment before we can identify the proven reserve of lithium in the Salal-Haimana deposit. If this ends up being substantial, it can help India reduce its import dependence for lithium in the future and help the stationary battery system and EV battery industries,\u201d Krishnan told The Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis builds on earlier announcements of lithium deposits in Karnataka, and the focus must now shift to assessing the commercial extraction potential,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Pankaj Sharma, director of the Indian nanotechnology company Log9 Materials, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesstoday.in\/technology\/news\/story\/how-lithium-discovery-in-jk-could-pit-india-against-china-in-battery-tech-369879-2023-02-11\">Business Today<\/a> that India has had to rely on imports of batteries and other EV components due to the unavailability of lithium, but the latest discovery may change this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLithium being one of the core elements of the lithium-ion batteries and taking into consideration the financial impact of sourcing lithium, the recent discovery of lithium reserves in [Jammu and Kashmir] does come in as a new lease of life as it further enables India\u2019s ambition to become self-sufficient in its energy storage needs,\u201d Sharma said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">China currently dominates global EV production and domestic adoption of new energy vehicles is well advanced.
