{"id":41289,"date":"2023-02-20T21:55:37","date_gmt":"2023-02-20T22:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/?p=41289"},"modified":"2023-02-20T23:35:33","modified_gmt":"2023-02-20T23:35:33","slug":"pope-francis-asks-pontifical-academy-for-life-to-study-ethics-of-emerging-technologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/2023\/02\/20\/pope-francis-asks-pontifical-academy-for-life-to-study-ethics-of-emerging-technologies\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Francis asks Pontifical Academy for Life to study ethics of emerging technologies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/pontificalacademyforlife2.20.23.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/tags\/833\/pontifical-academy-for-life\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Pontifical Academy for Life<\/a> is meeting in Rome this week for its 28th General Assembly Feb. 20\u201322.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the in-person meeting, the academy is hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academyforlife.va\/content\/pav\/en\/events\/assembly-2023--converging-technologies.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">free online webinar<\/a> on \u201cEmerging Technologies and the Common Good\u201d with speakers scheduled to discuss technological convergence in nanotechnology, biotechnology, and the cognitive sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver these days you will reflect on the relationship between the person, emerging technologies, and the common good: It is a delicate frontier, at which progress, ethics, and society meet, and where faith, in its perennial relevance, can make a valuable contribution,\u201d Pope Francis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this sense, the Church never ceases to encourage the progress of science and technology at the service of the dignity of the person and integral human development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/it\/speeches\/2023\/february\/documents\/20230220-pav.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">speech<\/a> to the academy, Pope Francis also warned that \u201ctechnology cannot replace human contact.\u201d He said that it is a \u201cbad temptation\u201d to make \u201cthe virtual prevail over the real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is evident that the technological form of human experience is becoming more pervasive every day: in the distinctions between \u2018natural\u2019 and \u2018artificial,\u2019 \u2018biological\u2019 and \u2018technological,\u2019 the criteria with which to discern what is human and of technology become increasingly difficult.
