{"id":44037,"date":"2023-03-14T18:03:43","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T19:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/?p=44037"},"modified":"2023-03-14T19:36:03","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T19:36:03","slug":"zeda-inc-closes-52-million-series-b-funding-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/2023\/03\/14\/zeda-inc-closes-52-million-series-b-funding-round\/","title":{"rendered":"Zeda Inc. closes $52 million series B funding round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>California-based nanotech and 3D manufacturing company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vertexmanufacturing.com\/\">Zeda Inc.<\/a> has raised $52 million in a round supported by industrial heavyweights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Previously trading as PrinterPrezz and Vertex Manufacturing, the series B funding round is an unspecified mix of debt and equity and brings total funding to $68 million. The value of the enterprise was not disclosed. Zeda provides industrial 3D printing and nanotech services for medical, space, aerospace, and defense industries.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Shri Shetty, said Zeda \u201cis seeing exponential growth in our served market,\u201d with this funding success further validating \u201cour visions for the company and the capabilities of our exceptional team to execute against our business plan\u201d. \u201cWe are delighted to have closed a substantial round, particularly with the current economic headwinds\u201d, continued Shetty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While Zeda may not be a name familiar to many in the 3D printing industry, the company\u2019s CTO and Co-founder Greg Morris is significantly more well known. Morris, as co-owner of Morris Technologies (MTI) brought the first DMLS printer to the USA in 2003. <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/news\/ge-aviation-acquires-two-am-companies-3321\/\">MTI would be acquired by GE<\/a> as the engineering behemoth took strides along its journey into additive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Backing the magic Morris touch are existing investors, and joint round leaders, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boutiquevc.com\/\">Boutique Venture Partners<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/berkeleycatalystfund.com\/\">Berkeley Catalyst Fund<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dreamonevision.com\/\">DOV Management<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solvay.com\/en\/innovation\/solvay-ventures\">Solvay Ventures<\/a>. Dr. Rami El Assal, Managing General Partner and Co-founder of Boutique Venture Partners, expressed delight at having been able to support Zeda during the funding round, a company he sees as \u201cdramatically speeding innovation\u201d in the medical sector.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A number of new institutional and strategic investors also participated, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michelin.com\/en\/\">Michelin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fivesgroup.com\/\">Fives Group<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn-sanso.co.jp\/en\/\">Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgc.com\/english\/\">Mitsubishi Chemical Group company<\/a>, all taking joining the round. \u201cWe are very excited to be a partner of Zeda and are impressed with Zeda\u2019s quality control system for printed implants\u201d, commented Mr. Kobayashi, Head of the Corporate Office of Innovation at Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation. \u201cWe also believe that TNSC\u2019s technologies, including purity control of printing atmosphere and surface modification parts, will further enhance Zeda\u2019s process\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds of the funding round will be used to finance the company\u2019s new, Cincinnati-based, advanced manufacturing digital foundry. Funding will also be put towards the expansion of facilities globally, in order to address the growing demand for 3D printing within the medical, defense, aerospace, space and energy verticals.<\/p>\n<p>Last year it was announced that Zeda (then PrinterPrezz) had signed an agreement with the Singapore Healthcare Cluster and the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC), to regionally grow the 3D printed implant market. Consequently, it has been affirmed that a portion of the funds will also contribute to the expansion of Zeda\u2019s medical implant applications within the Asian market.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shri-shetty-zeda-ceo-photo-Photo-via-Zeda-Inc.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-221175\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Zeda CEO Shri Shetty. Photo via Zeda Inc.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>PrinterPrezz and its Vertex subsidiary rebrand to Zeda, Inc.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This funding round follows an announcement made last month that PrinterPrezz Inc. and its subsidiary Vertex manufacturing had rebranded to form Zeda Inc. The company claims that this new name reflects its \u201cZ to A\u201d approach, starting with the customer in mind and ending with a product. Zeda is also said to represent the strength and progress of both PrinterPress and Vertex over the previous five years, achieved by combining advanced manufacturing processes with semiconductor technologies. \u201cZeda reflects where we came from, where we are today, and where we intend to go\u201d, according to Shetty.<\/p>\n<p>Now possessing 140,000 square feet across multiple facilities in Silicon Valley, California, New Jersey, Ohio, and Singapore, Zeda has grown through the strategic acquisition of companies such as Vertex. \u201cThis is the next chapter in our growth\u201d, said Zeda CTO, and Vertex founder, Greg Morris. \u201cAs one brand, we are in a stronger position to leverage the full capabilities of both companies more effectively\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although initially founded to address the evolving needs of the orthopedic devices industry, Zeda has now expanded to partner with companies in a variety of sectors. CEO Shetty has explained how they soon realized that combining advanced technologies from the semiconductor industry with manufacturing processes such as 3D printing \u201ccould revolutionize not just healthcare but advancements in the space, defense, semiconductor, and aerospace industries\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/4-1024x576-1.png\" alt=\"A 3D printed arm cast by PrinterPrezz. Image via PrinterPrezz. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Recent fundraising in the 3D printing industry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Away from Zeda, Volumetric 3D printer developer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xolo3d.com\/\">Xolo<\/a> recently announced its successful completion of a Series A funding round, raising $8.6 million. This followed a 2021 seed round, which saw the company raise $2.7 million. Through their proprietary printer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xolo3d.com\/xube.html\">Xube<\/a>, and their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xolo3d.com\/xolography.html\">Xolography<\/a> technology, Xolo offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/news\/xolo-raises-e8-million-in-series-a-funding-round-220953\/\">novel volumetric process<\/a> for faster printing. It is claimed that this funding will help Xolo achieve its vision to \u201creshape the 3D printing industry.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, water filtration technology provider <a href=\"https:\/\/evove.tech\/\">Evove<\/a>, based in the UK, has closed a \u00a35.7 million funding round, funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atoneventures.com\/\">At One Ventures<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/amventures.com\/\">AM Ventures.<\/a> Existing investors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/innovate-uk\">Innovate UK<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imagineh2o.org\/\">Imagine H20<\/a> also contributed to the round. It is said that this funding will allow Evove to expand production capabilities and scale up its <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/news\/evove-raises-5-7m-in-funding-to-reduce-co2-emissions-with-3d-printing-221103\/\">3D printed membrane process<\/a>.
