{"id":44058,"date":"2023-03-14T16:53:03","date_gmt":"2023-03-14T17:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/?p=44058"},"modified":"2023-03-14T19:36:27","modified_gmt":"2023-03-14T19:36:27","slug":"pensioner-turning-85-aims-to-outlive-his-grandkids-in-cryogenic-storage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/2023\/03\/14\/pensioner-turning-85-aims-to-outlive-his-grandkids-in-cryogenic-storage\/","title":{"rendered":"Pensioner turning 85 aims to outlive his grandkids in cryogenic storage"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/SEC_148278884-1d3b.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-18442117\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1260\" alt=\"Caption: Exclusive: Pensioner aims to outlive six grandkids in cryogenic storage as he turns 85   James Clarke\/Getty\" \/>\n<\/div><figcaption>Alan Sinclair is signed up to a scheme in the US that aims to give patients a chance of life after clinical death (Picture: James Clarke\/Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\">A pensioner who turned 85 today hopes to outlive his grandchildren with a place in cryogenic storage&nbsp;at a US facility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Alan Sinclair&nbsp;plans to&nbsp;go into&nbsp;deep freeze in a tank at the<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/01\/07\/brits-hope-for-life-after-death-by-cryogenically-freezing-their-bodies-18039920\/\" data-type=\"url\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/01\/07\/brits-hope-for-life-after-death-by-cryogenically-freezing-their-bodies-18039920\/\">&nbsp;Cryonics Institute<\/a>&nbsp;(CI)&nbsp;in Michigan after his clinical death. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He&nbsp;is signed up to an&nbsp;expanding&nbsp;scheme&nbsp;where patients from around the world are \u2018suspended\u2019 in liquid nitrogen at&nbsp;-196C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If the grandfather\u2019s \u2018best bet\u2019 on the cryopreservation method pays off, he may&nbsp;one day live beyond the youngest generations of his family&nbsp;\u2014 none of&nbsp;whom&nbsp;is signed up to the \u00a322,990 scheme.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u2018It\u2019s&nbsp;just&nbsp;another birthday,&nbsp;I\u2019d&nbsp;prefer not to be 85 but I&nbsp;can\u2019t&nbsp;alter that,\u2019 he said.&nbsp;\u2018Coming out of suspension at 185 or 1085 is&nbsp;a good idea&nbsp;but like anyone else going into suspension, there is no guarantee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u2018For me,&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;the only possible chance&nbsp;you\u2019ve&nbsp;got&nbsp;of coming back, as I quite like life and you are not going to come back if you are eaten by worms.&nbsp;There\u2019s&nbsp;even less chance if you are burnt.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u2018Being frozen with the&nbsp;hope that science will&nbsp;some day&nbsp;allow you to&nbsp;be woken up is the&nbsp;best bet.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"644\" height=\"429\" data-rsz=\"shrink\" src=\"https:\/\/peymantaeidi.net\/stem-cell\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/SEI_148277130-9ada.jpg\" alt=\"For Josh Layton Alan Sinclair. It would be very&nbsp;exciting,&nbsp;I would love&nbsp;to meet my&nbsp;great-grandmother&nbsp;now&nbsp;but obviously&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;not possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u2018It\u2019s&nbsp;always nice to meet family, whenever it happens.\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Critics view&nbsp;cryonics as fanciful pseudoscience, with Dr Miriam Stoppard&nbsp;saying it \u2018robs the dying of their dignity\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Although strides are being made in technologies such as artificial intelligence and nanotechnology, the reawakening of the brain and other organs after the body shuts down&nbsp;remains&nbsp;a far leap.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" data-rsz=\"shrink\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/themes\/metro-parent\/img\/fallback.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/SEI_148277131-d320.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;zoom=1&amp;resize=540%2C360\" alt=\"For Josh Layton Alan Sinclair. Strictly only to be used with permission. james@jamesclarke.me 07941676821 www.jamesclarke.me.\" class=\"wp-image-18441764\" \/>\n<\/div><figcaption>Alan Sinclair at home in front of family mementoes that may one day be long-treasured heirlooms in his keep (Picture: James Clarke)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\">The prospect of \u2018reanimation\u2019&nbsp;at some point after being frozen in a cryostat cylinder will need radical advances in science \u2014 along with cures for the medical conditions behind many of the patients\u2019 deaths.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Alan, however, believes the scheme he has paid $28,000 (\u00a322,990) for is worth the gamble of being reawakened for a second life. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u2018It would be like being reborn again,\u2019 he said. \u2018I would carry on life and finish off the car I started when I was here the first time.&nbsp;It\u2019s&nbsp;a little race car and&nbsp;I would like to&nbsp;get inside and go for a drive.
