Immunity provided by vaccines appears to wane over time. The research supports Omicron-specific vaccine boosters to better protect those who have not previously been infected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis study shows that immunity from infection, sometimes called \u2018natural immunity,\u2019 plays an important role in protection against subsequent COVID-19 infection,\u201d James Baker,&nbsp;Director of the Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center,&nbsp;said.<\/p>\n<p>Authors of the research include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uofmhealth.org\/profile\/33008\/charles-frank-schuler-md\">Charles Schuler, M.D<\/a><u>.<\/u>, assistant professor of Internal Medicine and assistant professor of Mary H Weiser Food Allergy at the University of Michigan Medical School;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uofmhealth.org\/profile\/1427445022\/kelly-marie-oshea-md\">Kelly O\u2019Shea, M.D<\/a><u>.<\/u>, assistant professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor of Mary H Weiser Food Allergy, Medical School; and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.umich.edu\/dept\/foodallergy\/james-r-baker-jr-md\">James Baker, M.D<\/a><u>.<\/u>, Director, Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center, Ruth Dow Doan Professor of Biologic Nanotechnology, Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine, Medical School and Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>The research was funded by The University of Michigan (Institutional Funding via a COVID-19 Innovation Grant as well as funding from the Mary H.
