Golden lenses see off foggy days in glasses

People who wear glasses could avoid the problem of foggy lenses on cold days thanks to a gold “nano-coating” that can warm up their spectacles.
The technology relies on an ultra-thin layer of gold particles, which are applied to a spectacle lens. This transparent coating is able to convert sunlight into heat, which in turn, should prevent the glasses from misting up.
Spectacles become foggy when the moisture in humid air cools rapidly as it hits a cold glass surface. This results in tiny droplets of water, or condensation, forming.
The droplets disperse light in many directions, in much the same way as fog or mist does, which makes it hard to see.
The new coating, described yesterday in the journal Nature Nanotechnology, avoids
