Jan 03, Colombo: Resettlement Division of the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing says 50 nanotechnology water treatment plants will be installed to control the kidney disease prevalent in the Northern Province and solve the drinking water problem of the people in those areas.
Accordingly, 4 nano water treatment plants will be established in Mullaitivu district, and 23 nano water treatment plants will be established each in Kilinochchi and Vavuniya districts.
Under the government’s concept of providing safe drinking water to all, as per the instructions of the Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga, the Resettlement Division operating under the ministry is implementing this project together with the Community Water Department.
The Resettlement Division says that these nano water treatment plants are capable of purifying about 2000 liters of water per day.
High-valent salts or divalent elements are removed by from water during water treatment by nanotechnology. Also, nano-purification removes toxins, heavy metals and other organic compounds and removes the odor and taste of the water.
The total cost of this project, which was started in 2021, is 209 million rupees. The Resettlement Division states that about 60 percent of the construction work of this project has been completed.
The Resettlement Division also mentions that due to the coronavirus epidemic and the crises the country was facing, the completion of the construction work of the nano water treatment plant project was delayed.
The Resettlement Unit also expresses confidence that this project will be completed soon.
