Best scientific results in 2022 awarded in Cuba

The website of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) published the list of awardwinners for the greatest scientific relevance, economic impact, social impact, greatest relevance for the environment and greatest integration for the delivery of its Special Awards corresponding to 2022.

On this occasion, the entire process of the Soberana vaccine by the Finlay Vaccines Institute, in conjunction with the Center for Molecular Immunology, the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Havana and the National Center for Biopreparations, was included among the most relevant results of Cuban science.

This distinction was also granted to the project called Obtaining the Abdala vaccine, first Latin American Covid-19 protein subunit immunogen, carried out by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), and other entities such as the AICA Laboratories Company, the Civil Defense Laboratory and the Center for Immunoassays.

Also awarded for its social impact was Las familias en la Constitución (Families in the Constitution), a proposal of the Law School of the University of Havana and the Ministry of Higher Education.

Repositioning of the Cuban humanized monoclonal antibody Nimotuzumab in the treatment of patients with Covid-19, by the Center for Molecular Immunology, was added to the most relevant scientific works of the year.

The special award for the greatest integration went to the Cuban Emergency Ventilation Project, while the Integrated Commerce System, belonging to the Information Technology and Advanced Telematic Services Company (Citmatel), won the special award for the work with the greatest economic impact.

A similar award went to the RNA-CEA-NANO+RNA 3.0 magnetic extraction system, a national contribution of nanotechnology to PPCR diagnosis of Sars-CoV2, from the Center for Advanced Studies of Cuba with the collaboration of the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine.

Meanwhile, the contributions of the National Botanical Garden in the studies on systematics and taxonomy in the flora of Cuba achieved the highest recognition from Citma to the work of greater environmental relevance.
