Education Minister emphasizes the need to update public’s technical knowledge

Dec 04, Colombo: Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that technical knowledge of Sri Lanka public should be updated.
Attending a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, the Minister said steps will be taken to include technology subject as a core subject in the GCE Ordinary Level examination.
The Minister despite being ahead in terms of knowledge compared to other countries, Sri Lanka does not have a process to use that knowledge practically.
Minister Premajayantha presided over the presentation of prizes and certificates to the winning students and teachers of the Information and Communication Technology Champion competition.
Addressing the event, the Minister points out that steps should be taken at the same time, to prepare the path to overcome future challenges by equipping students with knowledge as well as technology by incorporating ICT with emerging subject streams such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence.
He added that the budget has allocated Rs.1 billion to provide IT technology and internet facilities to 1,000 schools island wide, and all schools will be equipped and brought to one network by March-April 2023, This will also enable teachers and principals to be networked resolve all administration issue including their placements, and promotions.
The competition was organized by the Information and Communication Branch of the Ministry of Education, the Computer Studies Department of the University of Colombo, the Sri Lanka Information Technology Industry Board and the Sri Lanka Computer Association.
State Minister Aravinda Kumar and officials of the Ministry were also present on this occasion.
