On International Women’s Day, Professor Neena Mitter of the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) has been named one of 50 women at the cutting edge of Australian science by Cosmos Magazine.
Neena is the research lead for a game-changing crop protection approach, BioClay™, a safe and sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides. BioClay has been developed over the past decade by the University of Queensland’s Qld Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) and the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) with support from CRDC, Hort Innovation and Nufarm.
BioClay is considered a game-changer for crop protection because it’s effective against whitefly (Bemisia tabaci), responsible for the loss of billions of dollars in agricultural crops around the world – including in cotton.
