Mangaluru: Dr Indrani Karunasagar attends UNESCO Award Ceremony at Equatorial Guinea, Africa

Mangaluru, Mar 16: The annual prestigious UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Life Science Prize is awarded to acclaimed scientists who have made notable scientific contributions. UNESCO calls for nominations for the award and a distinguished International Jury selects scientists for this award. Dr Indrani Karunasagar, director, Nitte University has been a member of the International Jury since 2014.

The International Jury headed by Dr Indrani Karunasagar elected the following scientists for the UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Life Science Prize 2022 – Dr Mosaad Attia Abdel-Wahhab from National Research Center, Egypt; Dr Almira Ramanaviciene from Center of Nanotechnology & Material Science, Vilnius University, Lithuania; Dr Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov from the Center of Genomics & Bioinformatics, Uzbekistan and Prof Yigong Shi, president, Westlake University, China.

Prof Dr Indrani Karunasagar attended the meeting at UNESCO, Paris on March 7 and addressed the Equatorial Guinea University students and faculty along with the Laureates on 9th March. The grand award ceremony held at Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on March 10 was attended by the president of Equatorial Guinea, heads of several African states and ambassadors of several countries including the Indian Ambassador to UNESCO and the ambassador to Equatorial Guinea.

Each laureate received $100,000 as prize money for research in life science from the UNESCO.
